LLL measurements

It is mandatory to test all Low Location Lighting Systems every five years. During an LLL measurement, experienced engineers will these measurements using fully calibrated equipment. Both the measurement process and the equipment we use are certified by DNV, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.

Our own company, and many of our dealers, are accredited by DNV to carry out Low Location Lighting (LLL) measurement services. Here’s how we can help you with your Low Location Lighting needs:

  • Photoluminescent Low Location Lighting measurements and tests (DNV certified)
  • Electric Low Location Lighting measurements and tests
  • Low Location Lighting refurbishment or replacement

Let us handle the testing, so you can focus on running your business with peace of mind.

Why are LLL measurements needed?

The main purpose of Low Location Lighting is to ensure passengers can safely find their way to the nearest Assembly Station during emergencies. To achieve this, LLL systems meet the requirements outlined in IMO 75218 and ISO 15370. These standards establish guidelines to guarantee that LLL systems are fully operational and reliable, providing clear and effective illumination at low levels.

Compliance with these regulations involves regular testing (every 5 year) and performance verification of LLL systems. Over time, the materials and components of LLL systems may degrade, potentially impacting their functionality. By conducting routine measurements, we ensure that the systems remain effective and meet the standards for operational safety.

In addition to supporting passenger safety, LLL measurements are essential for maintaining certification from classification societies like DNV (CLASS Approval). This ensures that vessels pass inspections and audits, keeping their safety credentials up to date and compliant with international maritime regulations.

LLL Measurements by SafeSign

During Low Location Lighting (LLL) measurements, we assess whether the system delivers sufficient light output to comply with regulatory standards. These measurements, conducted in lumens, are done by DNV-certified engineers using advanced, high-precision equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.

Photoluminescent and Electric Low Location Lighting (LLL) systems require different testing procedures. Electric systems can be tested immediately but must also demonstrate functionality on battery power for at least 60 minutes. Photoluminescent systems, however, need to be properly charged before testing to ensure accurate measurement of their performance.

If you choose SafeSign for your LLL measurements, our engineers (or dealers) will deliver a detailed report of the readings, along with recommendations for any necessary upgrades or modifications to ensure compliance. Contact us today for expert advice or to schedule a consultation tailored to your location’s specific requirements.
