Low Location Lighting is a system installed close to the ground (low) to clearly mark escape routes and emergency exits or assembly points. Low Location Lighting Systems are made from photoluminescent materials that absorb and store ambient light. In the event of a power outage or low-light conditions, these materials emit a bright, visible glow to clearly mark escape routes and exits. At SafeSign, we specialize in the installation, measurement, and certification of these systems, which are required on certain ships by IMO and SOLAS regulations. Low Location Lighting systems guide passengers and crew members through corridors and stairwells, highlighting changes in direction, stairs, exits, and the locations of fire and rescue equipment.
Low Location Lighting (LLL) helps guide people to safety during, for example, a power outage or when smoke fills up corridors and thereby reduces visibility. Installed close to the ground, where visibility is better in such situations, it clearly marks escape routes, stairs, exits, and the locations of emergency equipment. This ensures people can find their way to safety when overhead lighting is blocked or not functioning.
Our Low Location Lighting by LightLine uses high-quality photoluminescent materials that absorb and store ambient light. In the event of a power outage or low-light conditions, these materials emit a bright, visible glow to clearly mark escape routes and exits. This glow is highly visible in the dark, helping guide people to safety even without electrical power. Photoluminescent LLL Systems are self-sustaining, requiring no energy source once charged by surrounding light.
We also offer Electrical Low Location Lighting, please contact us for more information.
Low Location Lighting Mini Symbols are ‘mini’ Safety Signs, integrated onto the Low Location Lighting System. These Mini Symbols are positioned directly below the standard Safety Signs, but at floor level. This ensures that even when smoke fills the corridors and visibility decreases, escape routes and firefighting equipment remain identifiable. These symbols often include arrows, a running man, or directional indicators, helping occupants quickly understand the safest path to exit during an emergency, even in low-visibility situations.
SafeSign offers standard transparent, translucent self-adhesive mini symbols with a height of 50mm. For smaller LLL strips or electrical LED LLL Systems, PET-X mini symbols are available. It is mandatory to place additional Fire Fighting Mini Symbols for areas where firefighting equipment is located opposite the LLL strip.
